PK1 Chair

Poul Kjærholm was one of the leading architects of Danish Modernism. The Scandinavian functionalism that characterises his designs is characterised by simplicity and lightness. In this elegant chair, Kjærholm combines his favourite material, steel, with an organic material: the two different qualities of the materials used merge masterfully in the PK1 dining chair. Originally made of wicker, the PK1 is now available in an updated version with an FSC-certified woven paper cord seat. The weaving technique follows Kjærholm's original design: it takes a skilled craftsman 15 hours to weave the seat by hand. The combination of an industrial material such as steel with natural paper cord exudes lightness and elegance. The PK1 is now considered a design icon as it masterfully balances design, comfort and stability.
