Founded in 1935 by designers, husband and wife, Aino and Alvar Aalto, along with fellow idealists Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl.

Artek was created with an aspiration to ‘promote a modern culture of living’, taking its name from a combination of words ‘art’ and ‘technology’, concepts that were central to the international modernist movement of the 1920s. Its founders always focus to unite the two entities and with their geniality they managed to merge the design, architecture and art concepts.
